  Aymestrey School, Worcester

Aymestrey School Events

1909    Aymestrey House started in Worcester Road, Malvern Link

1920    First edition of The Aymestrey Magazine

1922    Moved to Crown East and became Aymestrey Court
            Aunt Ness moved into the cottage

1923    A cricket pavilion was donated by the Old Boys
            The swimming pool was completed

1928    The Boys Entrance and cloakroom were added.
            The start of term was delayed by one week

1932    Scouting recommenced

1933    The Mildmays became Junior Partners

1935    Sir died, Dan returned to become Junior Partner
            Tief moved to the cottage with Aunt Ness

1936    Old Aymestrey Association started
1938    The practice of wearing the Eton Collar on Sundays was stopped
            First inspection by the Ministry of Education

1942    Dan and Jean married in Worcester Cathedral 11 April

1943    Scout camp became one week, instead of a long weekend

1947    Scout camp went to Wales for the first time.
            The Mildmays moved to the Cottage.
            Tief and Aunt Ness moved to Little Aymestrey on Claphill Lane. 
            The Great Gale brought down 20 trees. 
            It also flattened the Gym, and demolished the Pavilion

1948    The Mildmays left

1953    Inspection by the Ministry of Education

1957    Aunt Ness died

1959    The school celebrated 50 years with a new pavilion

___1962    Tief died

1966    Hugh and Gill Griffith arrived.
            In March the Science Room was opened as a memorial to Tief

1975    Dan had to officially retire from Scouting, so Scouts became the Outdoor Club.

1976    Gales felled a number of trees
            An assault course was built in the Jungle
            The lake was netted and some fish removed

1977    Dan retired

1981    The all weather play area was completed
            Carols and Bust Up were cancelled due to snow

1986    The lake froze

1987    The Magazine was prepared on the school computer

1989    Jean died
            Dan and the school celebrated their 80th birthdays
            A new swimming pool was dug closer to the house

1990    Snow caused the Carol Service to be held without electricity

1994    Dan died.  A service of thanksgiving was held at the school on Saturday 3 September
            A new Apple computer and printer were presented by the 'Friends'

1996    A promotional video was made

1998    The school closed. 
            A farewell party was held on Sept 5th

1999    A sale of Memorabilia and School Equipment was held on 10 April.

2001    The pavilion was relocated to the Alfrick Cricket Ground where it is still in use.

2003    Hugh Griffith died
