Wolf Cubs at Aymestrey School

Picture

Wolf Cubs started at Aymestrey School at the same time as the Scout Troup, in 1932.  Miss Child was in charge until she left in 1935 and Miss Pye took over until she left at Christmas 1937.  After this it seems to have lapsed until Miss Robinson joined in May 1948.

(Summer 1948 Magazine):  Far the most important event in the term’s Scouting has been the restarting of the Cub Pack.    We have been fortunate in obtaining the services as Cub Master of Miss D M Robinson, who is highly experienced in this work. Under her leadership all the junior members of the school have taken to Cubbing with the greatest keenness, and all were enrolled as Wolf Cubs at the end of term.

In 1949 there were 22 enrolled cubs.  The Sixes were Black, Red and Grey.

That year they competed in the "Collett Shield" (Sports) and were joint winners among 12 Packs from the area.  The following year (1950) they won the the Shield again - this time there were 18 other Packs.

In 1950 they won the “Worcester District Totem Pole with 32 points out of a possible 33.”  This was formally presented in March 1951, and later that year they came 2nd in the same competition.

Akela (Miss Robinson) was awarded the Medal of Merit by the Chief Scout in 1951; but by Summer 1952 she was unwell so the Cubs did not function.  The Spring magazine of 1954 appears to be the last time the Cubs functioned - it is not clear who the Akela was at this time.
