  Aymestrey School, Worcester

The Asterley family

Maurice Nightingale Asterley (Sir) and his wife Edith Mary Coates (Tief) started Aymestrey House in Malvern in 1909.   The school was named after Aymestrey village where Sir and Tief got engaged – it seems they met playing tennis at the Vicarage and he proposed on the bridge at Aymestrey.  They married in 1905 in Eyton Church, and they may have honeymooned at Aymestrey.  Their son Dan was born in 1909.

In 1922 they move the school to Crown East.  Tief's sister Agnes Coates (Aunt Ness) moved into the Cottage shortly after the move to Crown East, and became closely involved in school life.

Dan was a pupil at the school, and returned as Headmaster in 1935 following his father's death.

Dan married Jean Bates in 1942, and together they ran the school until 1966, when they sold the school to Hugh and Gill Griffith.
